Rec skills are the skills that individuals need to learn how to do when there is unstructured time. Our goal is to teach a skill (or skills) that an individual could possibly use to make money or entertain themselves independently or in a group.
The social programs are broken down into groups. Targeted skills will be formed based on a consultation with parents/guardian and will work on specific skills. Small and Large group social skills are more verbal in nature, scenario based and based on ability level. Individuals are grouped determined by consultation.
Foundations art- will provide premium art supplies, a guided art session, small group sessions with a professional team member, hour of time. In that the individual learns valuable social and communication skills. When brought to LI, social and communication skills will be implemented with consistency and the least amount of assistance and prompting as possible.
We provide 1:1 and 3:1 sessions at this time.
Mixed Media art- will provide premium art supplies, a more in-depth guided art session that will produce a "work of art", small group sessions with a professional team member, hour of time. In that time, the individual learns valuable social and communication skills. When brought to LI, social and communication skills will be implemented with consistency and the least amount of assistance and prompting as possible. Projects may take more than 1 session to complete and are not based on age or ability level.

Crafting/Pinterest- will provide premium art supplies, a more in-depth guided art session that will produce a Pinterest project, small group sessions with a professional team member, hour of time. In that time, the individual learns valuable social and communication skills. When brought to LI, social and communication skills will be implemented with consistency and the least amount of assistance and prompting as possible. Projects may take more than 1 session to complete and are not based on age or ability level.

Cricut- will provide the cardstock or vinyl, software, and computer for producing a project utilizing a Cricut cutting machine. Learning how to use the software and components is a valuable, employable skill and many individuals (male and female) really enjoy this tool! 1:1 and 2:4
Targeted Social Skills- after a consultation with a LI representative and the parent/guardian, a plan will be made as to what specific social/functional skills are critical and should be focused on. Then, it is important to decide what setting is best. We offer 1:1 groups at this time when working with targeted social skills.
Social Skills: Local Independence is designed to be a safe place where groups of teens and young adults with a variety can come together with teen mentors and strengthen their social skills deficits. It will also be a fun place to learn how to "hang out". Many individuals are akward in social settings and this a perfect place to start! It's safe, facilitated, and a great place to practice communication and social skills. Group size 3-5:1
